New batteries are still available on the internet and eBay, the following info will help you in your search.
Expansion Pack Battery - To replace the expansion pack battery, remove the four screws on the inside of the housing. Then gently separate the rear cover from the housing at the top and bottom (do not pry aggressively, just release with thin wedge). There are plastic clips in the back cover on the left and right side. You have to pry the side of the back housing out (away from) the main housing on the sides to get the plastic clip to release from the plastic receiver of the main housing. Once they are released the back cover should release. Again, the battery just plugs into the main board inside and is held in place with some double stick tape on all four corners.
